When you’re 10, you are still a naive child.
Easily influenced by the ones around you.
Setting your goals. The search for an identity.
Mistakes were made, but they were a good way to learn.

As a teenager, with lack of confidence, you just wanna fit in.
Afraid of what’s next, a lot of directions were appealing.
Some of his friends were starting bands, going to shows.
Doing what they believed in. Getting involved, it just seemed right!

You wake up.
The light is shining outside.
Every single day is a good day to start your own personal revolution.
A quest for the answers, improving yourself as an individual.
You keep your mind open and absorb the knowledge.
That feeling grows every day and it starts being contagious.
Those comrades will get along with you during this journey of a lifetime.

This path gave us the foundations to guide us through the maze
And we just took the opportunity.
When you live in a place, where there is nothing to do.
Either you start being creative or end up following the stream.

Well, there was nothing to do.
Those were the suburbs, where your parents go to sleep and you go watch TV.
No positive inputs by the ones around you.
Overwhelmed by apathy but I managed to break free.

Well the thing is...
After being exposed to a counterculture you will never see reality with the same eyes.
There’s no turning back. There’s no turning back!
Questioning the so called Truth, you don’t fit the moral majority.
It’s what you are, you feel good in your own skin.
What defines you as an intellectual being, able to think for yourself.
Compassionate with all forms of life, setting a new standard.
You didn’t quite manage to change the world
but you were able to set the foundations to live in it.


About this song:

Foundation is about my own perspective of growing up inside the punk/hardcore scene.
My father died when I was 10 and I’ve found myself lost, without guidance.
Many roads I could have travelled, but some of them were quite dark...
When I started going to punk/hardcore shows I’ve found a positive escape and soon I realized that I was not alone.
We all came from different backgrounds and past scenarios.
All we needed was a place to restart...
The punk/hardcore scene became our second or first home. To meet inspirational people, to read challenging fanzines, to sing our aims, hopes and dreams.
Growing in a creative and free thinking environment, through a DIY perspective, we found the weapons to develop ourselves.
Looking back, I understand now how lucky and priviliged we were.
It’s in our hands to use what we learned and to do things differently.
